I was real pleased with myself when I was able to snag one of Andrew Thornton’s October Challenge kits. These kits always seem to sell out FAST. I diligently checked my mailbox and after a reasonable amount of time had passed, sent the “I didn’t get mine yet” email out. Alas, the kit finally arrived on October 25th. So, I ended up with a few days to mull and began to design. I’m referring to this one as the “Blue Straggler”. Appropriate I think.
What’s a Blue Straggler? Blue Stragglers” are unusually hot and bright stars found in the cores of ancient star clusters known as globulars. Globular clusters are located in galactic halos, of which the Milky Way may have from 180 to 200, or more. Most are located at least several thousand light-years away from Sol, and most are around 12 billion years old or more. The Milky Way’s largest and brightest globular is Omega Centauri (NGC 5139), which contains about 10 million stars totalling about five million Solar masses spread over some 150 light-years. Anyway, here’s what my completed Blue Stragglers look like; a micro macrame necklace featuring a repurposed locket, a simple dangling pendant, and a memory wire bracelet featuring a Humble Beads focal. Thanks to Andrew for hosting the Blog Hop and for the inspirational assortment of beads. Here’s the list of participants:
My jaw dropped when I saw this stunning necklace! I love the beadwork and the macrame. The bracelet is darling.
Thanks for the ‘Astronomy’ lesson!
All three pieces are gorgeous. I adore the dangling pendant! Interesting that we were both inspired by stars!
I love that you shared the story of your inspiration. Your designs are beautiful–hard to pick a favorite! I love that you used micro macrame with the first necklace. That’s a technique I’ve always admired, but haven’t tried!
Wow! These are gorgeous!! I love them all!
Wow! These are all exquisite pieces! I love the colors & varied textures of the first one. It looks like it took a long time to make.
Stunning pieces, great job!
I love your designs they are all beautiful.

My favorite is the `charming necklace“. I would wear that for sure. I just finished reading an intrusting book about space (fiction)The Sparrow.
WOW! Your pieces are great! I do love the charming necklace as well! But they are all amazing!
I apologize for the delay! It seems as though many of the kits had shipping delays. But it just goes to show what a talented pair of hands is capable of in a short amount of time! You knocked this one out of the park! Not just one awesome piece, but THREE! Great job! The pieces turned out fabulous and I love the name and meaning behind the first necklace… it’s stellar!
