2nd Annual Challenge of Travel

Written By: admin - Aug• 31•13

Here we are for the 2nd Annual Challenge of Travel. This challenge is all about the “Staycation” . In reality, the “staycation” concept actually motivated us to take a real vacation this summer in order to escape the never ending heat at home. Haven’t been able to take a real vacation in like 10 years. We ended up hitting the road in the camper and relaxing on the beach with family in the Pacific Northwest.

Here I am enjoying nature’s sandbox.

Dunes

The actual “staycation” would involve disguising myself as a “tourist” and heading to “The Strip”.

I live just on the outskirts of fabulous Las Vegas. Yup, Cha Ching!

But, that’s not the Las Vegas I know and love. I prefer the outdoors and the wonderful Spring Mountain Range. Fortunately, I can see the mountains from my yard and live about 5 miles from Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Furthermore, my yard of sorts is a little known tourist destination “Cactus Joe’s Blue Diamond Nursery”.

So my inspiration for this challenge and many of my creations…literally right outside my door.

I love the colors of the desert, the turquoise blue skies, the rusty and brown colors of the earth and mountains.

The green shades of the native desert plants. I chose a piece of turquoise for the focal on one necklace.

The other necklace incorporates a piece of cholla wood skeleton with a crystal point.

So hop on over to our wonderful blog host site (Erin Praise-Hintz)  for this challenge – Treasures-Found/Tesori Trovatti
and see what Erin and others have done on their “staycation”.

Bead Hoarders Blog Hop

Written By: admin - Jul• 20•13

I do admit that I hoard beads.

Actually, not so much on the beads, but more so with pendants and charms.

As a lampwork glass worker, I can always make beads, but ceramic pendants are a different story.

Love these moon faces by Birgitta Lejonklou.

Of course Buddha’s are another favorite.

And, micro macrame necklaces are my favorite pieces to create.

Thanks for stopping by and see what others have created by hopping on over to Lori Anderson’s blog for the complete line up of participants.

p.s. thank you Lori for hosting yet another fun blog hop.

To The Point

Written By: admin - May• 14•13

Recently ordered some Linhas Setta cord from Knotmore.com and tried it out on a quartz point.

This cord is great for working with stones.

It is waxed, so it’s a little thicker and more substantial than C-Lon cord.

That wax gives it some gripping power. I’m liking it very much.

Bead Soup Blog Party #7 Reveal

Written By: admin - Mar• 30•13

Time for the first reveal at the Bead Soup Blog Party # 7.

First off, I was thrilled with all the beads, charms and bits that my partner Debra Behrends (Hopeful Journeys) shared with me.

So much good stuff that I could not fit everything into my limited design time.

Next up, I’d like to thank Lori Anderson (Pretty Things) for hosting this event and at the same time, to thank all the party goers who make this such a blog blast. Reserve some time for blog hopping. It’s a treat. Participants links are here.

A few words about my design process. Mostly I just sit down and make stuff. Not much for sketching, or grand design planning. I trust that the piece will come into being and to be what it needs to be. And, that it will appeal to someone, somewhere.

Challenge of Music 2013

Written By: admin - Mar• 01•13

The Challenge of Music Blog Hop… it’s time for the reveal.

music2013_button

Thank you Erin Prais-Hintz (Tesori Trovati-Treasures Found) for hosting and inspiring this creative blog hop.

This time around, the challenge was to create a piece using instrumental music.

I am a music fan and have an eclectic music collection.

I like classical, but it just didn’t fit in with my design for this round.

So, what would be a good fit?

Quote ” It is not a coincidence that the name Nightmares on Wax is an acronym for NOW,

as they describe their music as

“the sound of N.O.W.” to exemplify raw honesty and artistic freedom. “

The Hands Of An Artist

Written By: admin - Feb• 27•13

Look what I got my hands into yesterday afternoon.

I was a henna canvas for artist Kelly Hilger at Just Breathe Wellness Center.

Happening here this week the Vegas Face/Body Painters Jamtacular Expo.
