The past year has been filled with many personal and professional challenges.
Some tragic circumstances ( a suicide death of a remarkable friend and a manslaughter death of a co-worker.)
To say that it was a tough year would be an understatement.
I’ve learned over the years to just do my best to stay in the present moment,
and this has served me well. I tend to focus not on memories, but on what is happening in this moment.
I had no agenda or design plan for this blog hop and allowed my hands do the work for this one, rather than relying on my brain.
I decided to use some materials hanging around on my work bench:
wool yarn, bone bead, twin beads, leather strip, lampwork beads.
Technique: kumihimo braiding, macrame and hand sewing.
This is a modern, organic, primitive looking piece.
I thought about these words as I was putting it together…
Remember always that you are just a visitor here,
a traveler passing through.
Your stay is but short and the moment of your departure unknown.
None can live without toil and a craft that provides your needs is a blessing indeed.
But if you toil without rest, fatigue and weariness will overtake you,
and you will be denied the joy that comes from labor’s end.
Speak quietly and kindly and be not forward with either opinions or advice.
If you talk much, this will make you deaf to what others say,
and you should know that there are few so wise that they cannot learn from others.
Be near when help is needed, but far when praise and thanks are being offered.
Take small account of might, wealth and fame, for they soon pass and are forgotten.
Instead, nurture love within you and and strive to be a friend to all.
Truly, compassion is a balm for many wounds.
Treasure silence when you find it, and while being mindful of your duties, set time aside, to be alone with yourself.
Cast off pretense and self-deception and see yourself as you really are.
Despite all appearances, no one is really evil.
They are led astray by ignorance.
If you ponder this truth always you will offer more light, rather than blame and condemnation.
You, no less than all beings have Buddha Nature within.
Your essential Mind is pure.
Therefore, when defilements cause you to stumble and fall, let not remorse nor dark foreboding cast you down.
Be of good cheer and with this understanding, summon strength and walk on.
Faith is like a lamp and wisdom makes the flame burn bright.
Carry this lamp always and in good time the darkness will yield and you will abide in the Light.

An inspiring tribute and thoughtful words. Love the yarn and soft colours
That is a stunning piece! You should be proud of the work you have created.
I am so sorry for your losses. The necklace is beautiful and I’m sure the meditation while constructing it brought peace.
A wonderful necklace. All of your pieces are so unique.
Amazing piece! Beautiful thoughts.
Your words are so powerful Miss Cece. The piece you created using your heart and not your head is so amazing. Allowing the materials to take you where they will, the twists and turns of life, the foundational elements, all so full of meaning. Thank you for sharing! Enjoy the day! Erin

I really love this piece. Organic, a bit rustic but still elegant. I’ve been working on combining various fiber techniques, this is way beyond anything I’ve done. Just lovely.
Stunning words and work.
I can’t seem to bring my self to talk openly about some of things you have listed in the beginning of your post that have happened in my life. But the good thing is finding the ability to move forward and as you mentioned being present in the here and now. Your necklace is wonderful! Such talent! Enjoy the day!
Hugs

I have read so many books this past year on meditation and Buddhism as I struggle with understanding life and God. I really relate to this beautiful piece of writing and your style of creating. Thanks for sharing. Andrea
Your necklace is gorgeous! I’m sorry that you’ve had such a difficult year. Your words of wisdom sounds like something Kahil Gibran would have written. Thank you for sharing!
Unique and wonderful!
Really unusual and excellent!
Beautiful sentiments and a stunning piece 🙂
what a gorgeous piece – I love that you combined kumihimo, macrame and hand sewing in the piece. I love the colors and the shape of it, too. Beautiful words in spite of your tumultuous year!
So true and heartwarming words! The necklace is stunning, it reflects of a person with a resolute nature!
Wow, rough year but a remarkable tribute you made, it’s beautiful.
I love the mixed media piece you created. So beautiful, as are the words you shared.
Very nice organic piece! I love how you made the leaves it’s so unusual, and beautiful!
I find that kumihimo has an almost hypnotic effect on my mind whilst making a braid. I find that it almost makes itself, freeing me to think on other things. I love that you allowed this piece to grow on its own, it looks amazing.
What an unusual and beautiful piece. So sorry about your recent tragedies. This piece is a great remembrance. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful necklace!
